Healthy Eating

January 19, 2008

Okay. This is a blatant attempt to convince my wife that I’m not a total ignoramus (despite that fact that I still insist french fries are part of the food pyramid, if meat is not involved it is not a meal, and it is okay to serve rice and potatoes at the same time).

I found this website on healthy eating. My wife approaches ‘Militant’ on this issue.

She is my primary care giver – alright – she is the homemaker. She organizes the meals, does the shopping, takes care of the children.

I read a lot. But, not always in depth. I agree with the concept that when it comes to food, the closer to natural, the better. That’s the extent of my interest on the topic.

BUT, I do believe that the government should not prevent people from making choices.

In Michigan, it is illegal to sell Raw Milk (unpasturized, unprocessed). Store bought milk contains hormones, antibiotics, and other not-naturally occurring components. You should be able to chose what you want to drink.

Likewise, if you sell milk, you should be able to label your milk to show it doesn’t contain growth hormones.

Next up is the Cloned Meat issue. We all know that in-breeding causes recessive traits influence the health of the animal. Dolly, the cloned sheep, had to be euthanized at an early age because of health complications. Now, you could argue that this is a statistically normal occurrence. But, are you sure?

Regardless, I want to know what I buy. And, I want to be able to buy something I feel is healthier for me. And I want the government to keep out of my Frigidaire.

Spend some time on Food Democracy.

Mike Huckabee gave me $1

January 19, 2008

I sent it back with 100 more. Will you?

We’ve given a lot. But, we won’t be able to reach our maximum allowable contributions. If you can’t, there are other ways to help.

Here are some ways we are helping and you can too.

  1. This blog – write about Mike. And, write about other things that might draw people in. I’m amazed at some of the search engine terms that hit my site. I try for 1 article a day. Short is fine. You can be controversial. But, don’t be ugly. If you are funny, you will hook me.  It’s free if you start your own at www.wordpress.com.
  2. Tell your friends about Mike Huckabee. My wife e-mails her friends all the time. She secured at least 2 votes for Mike. And they secured some themselves. At work, I got at least 3 direct votes and I’m sure they pulled in some themselves. Also, I know one of my brothers was convinced. It makes a difference.
  3. Put a bumper sticker on your car. Arrgghhh. This one kills me. But, I did it. I was raised to believe the only thing that goes on cars is wax. Put it on the glass. You can scrape it off after the inauguration.
  4. Put a sign in your yard. Believe it or not, people ask.
  5. Volunteer at www.mikehuckabee.com. My wife just finished making about 100 phone calls to South Carolina voters. We have unlimited long distance. So, it only costs time – about 2 hours worth. She was hung up on and fussed at on some of the calls. BUT, she got one person to volunteer and confirmed and encouraged several people to support Mike Huckabee.
  6. MOST IMPORTANT – when it is your turn – GO VOTE FOR MIKE HUCKABEE!!!!

Huckabee in South Carolina Lead

January 19, 2008

The folks at TPM have a listing of the latest polls.  Huckabee leads in one poll.  McCain in others.  Anyone’s guess.

If you are in South Carolina, and you vote for Mike Huckabee, you will not have to worry that you voted for someone that isn’t concerned with you, your family, your job, your school, your life.  You may not agree with every position he takes.  But, remember that he will give considered thought to the decisions he makes.  And that the affects on you will be considered.

I have a brother that moved to Michigan shortly after I did.  He voted with me for Mike Huckabee.  He asked about the loss.  My reply was, “You did a good thing and don’t have to worry about your conscience.”  Mike Huckabee is a good person.

If you haven’t decided who to vote for, you still have time to investigate.  Start here.
