Abortion, Catholic, and Voting

January 27, 2008

From Deacon Keith Fournier, “Catholic Social teaching maintains that there are some unchangeable truths, such as the dignity of every human person, and the right to life, from conception to natural death; the primacy of authentic marriage and the family founded upon it; and our obligation in solidarity to one another, and, most especially, to the poor and needy in our midst. “

He goes further to say that these truths apply not just to Catholics, but, all people of Christian faith.  In fact, it applies to all people.  In the US, the lives of One Million People per year are ended.

It is our priviledge as citizens to vote.  It is our responsibility as humans, Christians, Catholics to research candidates and support ones most likely to protect life, family, and to help the poor.

I’ve done my research and Huckabee closely matches the requirements in Fournier’s statement.  My challenge to you is how can you support any candidate that doesn’t do those things.  Being for life, but not taking a real position against abortion is not good enough.

Bill Clinton and Race

January 27, 2008

If anyone thinks Bill Clinton is a prince, read this.

A prince among kings maybe.

Disgraceful behavior for a President. Yet, what should we expect with Jimmy Carter as his example of how a former Democrat President should conduct himself – endorse shady elections in 3rd world countries as legitimate.

Antonin Scalia, George Bush, and the Constitution

January 27, 2008

“The principal function of the courts is not to do what the majority wants, but what the Constitution prescribes.”

In my mind, this is possibly the single most important issue in electing presidents. Apart from his recent short comings (border security/amnesty), George W. Bush has made has made us safer by taking the fight to the islamic terrorists.

But what makes his presidency a success is his appointments to the US Supreme Court. Two jurist that will do “what the Constitution prescribes.”

Phone Calls for Huckabee

January 27, 2008

20 more calls for Huckabee.  My wife says the new program is much easier to use.  All her calls were to Florida.  AND, although not much Huckabee support, all of the people she talked to were polite.

It’s not to late to help.  If you want to help, you can contribute with funds and/or support.  Volunteer at www.mikehuckabee.com

Mike still has an opportunity to win this thing.  He is doing well in Alabama, Georgia, Missouri and other states.  But, you have to help now.

You only have to do 3 things . . .

  1. Send some Money
  2. Make some calls
  3. Tell a Friend

Hillary Clinton and the ‘Non-Black Female’ vote

January 27, 2008

I’m an engineer.  And, I’ve become hooked on the ‘numbers’ part of the elections.

Hillary’s base is the ‘Non-Black Female’ vote.  Obama did about as well as Hillary with the ‘Non-Black Male’ vote.

Hillary’s next strongest voter block is ‘65 and over.’

Don’t listen to the spin.  It is true that Obama only got about 25% of the white vote.  But if you dig in, that data is skewed by the White Female turnout.  They were the second largest voter block turnout.  In this group, Clinton beat Obama by 22%.  If you look at White Male, Clinton and Obama were only 2% apart.

Minor interest in the fact that in his home state, Edwards only got 2% of the black vote.  He tied Clinton in the white vote.  How much longer does he have?
