RNC Chairman Huckabee
Recently I posted about Mike Huckabee becoming Catholic. Now, this was done tongue-in-cheek. But, he does tend to follow Catholic doctrine. That said, many religious do. And, his religion is not really important to me. His beliefs are. That post brought me a lot of traffic, thanks to Kevin Tracy for throwing me a bone.
The long awaited release of Mike Huckabee’s new website put a new thought in my little brain. Mike Huckabee may be the right candidate to transform the republican party as the RNC chairman for the 2010 elections. He has the passion and message people want to hear. He will learn how to fund raise. And he will infuse the party with a high level of personal ethics.
At the same time, leading the Republican party to a successful mid-term election will go a long way to building support for the 2012 nomination if McCain loses to Obama.

I still wished he had run for senate in Arkansas

I’m mixed on that. I’m not so sure it would have been a slam dunk for him - very difficult to unseat a senator. BUT, having him and more like him would be great.

Huckabee needs to be focused on the national picture. Going back to Arkansas would be a mistake, and odds are he would lose anyway if he could. (he missed the filing anyway).
I personally think Michael Steele should be made RNC Chairman. If Huckabee gets the position, he’s going to make a LOT of enemies… think about it… he would be the Republican Howard Dean. The party chairman is a very controversial person and they rarely go on to win elected office unless they are from very conservative states.
Steele is from Maryland and he missed out on the Senate. His best bet now is serving as the RNC Chair and possibly being Huckabee’s VP in 2012.

Besides, if the establishment hated Huckabee in the 2008 race, just imagine how quickly they’d shoot him down if he expressed interest in being the party chairman.
