More on How Bill Clinton Reduced Abortion . . .

Not really, I just wanted to talk about a comment I received. From Mac . . .

Not to discount your opinion, but every study on abortion rates and their correlation to the legality and accessibility of abortion indicate that in countries where abortion is both legal and highly accessible, the abortion rates fall. Even the latest Guttmacher report on each state’s abortion rate show that in the U.S. states that have most abortion providers per capita, the abortion rates in those states are the lowest. So “safe, legal, and rare” isn’t a crazy thing to say.

“Safe, legal, and rare” also refers to the idea that you make comprehensive sex ed the norm, make reproductive care and birth control easily accessible and affordable for all in order to help women not get pregnant until they want to be pregnant…which automatically would mean fewer abortions.

So I wanted to do a little digging. First, the Guttmacher report . . . Guttmacher is the research arm for Planned Parenthood – the Billion $ industry. So accepting their data, blindly, is kind of like using the seller’s lawyer when you are buying a house.

Second, not everyone believes the Guttmacher data. Follow the link to read Jill Stanek’s take. Guttmacher either lied about data in Illinois or is not very concerned with accuracy. Illinois abortions actually increased from 2000 – 2006. That’s just one state.

Third, when you look at abortion rates, they appear to be falling. The commenter suggests that this is because of the presence of abortion clinics. In fact, surgical abortions are decreasing. But, that is only because of the availability of the ‘medicinal’ abortion . . . the Morning After Pill – RU486, which is available in Abortion Clinics. So, to suggest that the very thing that kills babies saves babies is counter-intuitive. I can go on.

There are very few absolutes in life – one is never bring data to an engineer unless you want to be challenged. So thanks to the commenter. I am grateful that he/she brought up the Guttmacher report – there are some interesting things on their website. Some that will provide more than one post from me.

Here’s the tease . . .

One Response to More on How Bill Clinton Reduced Abortion . . .

  1. Having recently done extensive research for my book on abortion (www.americaweeping.com) I am amazed at how easy it has become in America to dispense with another human being, simply because it is unborn. For Mac to even remotely suggest that Bill Clinton reduced abortion is simply disingenuous. Twice Mr. Clinton had the opportunity to sign the bill banning the barbaric partial birth abortion procedure and he vetoed it. With the Clintons, winning the votes of women always superseded the rights of the unborn. The same is true with many of Washington’s liberal politicians. It isn’t that they don’t know the truth about abortion. Once they experience the ‘high’ of being in a position to exert their influence on Washington, the rights of the unborn take a back seat, or are thrown out altogether. Can you believe, for example, that the most liberal politician in the Nation’s Capital, Senator Ted Kennedy, was once pro-life? Yes he was! That was long before the intoxicating power of the U.S. Senate got to him. Here is what he said in 1971:
“While the deep concern of a woman bearing an unwanted child merits consideration and sympathy, it is my personal feeling that the legalization of abortion on demand is not in accordance with the value which our civilization places on life. Wanted or unwanted, I believe that human life at it’s earliest stages, has certain rights which must be recognized – the right to be born, the right to love, the right to grow old…”
